The Early Days…

Going back to around 1991-1992, I began listening to Stu Allan on Manchester’s Key 103 radio station, as well as following the chart music which, at the time, was filled with classic dance music tracks from the likes of The Prodigy, Terrorize, Bizarre Inc, SL2 and more.

Soon after, I started mixing on vinyl turntables at friends’ houses and house parties, mixing oldschool/hardcore/rave music as well as some house music, recording my mixes on tapes.

I hunted down the top records from leading independent music stores initially in Manchester and eventually online, from around the UK.

The Manchester-based shops included Spin-Inn Records and Easter Bloc, where I met the late Marcus Intalex, as well as Mark XTC, both of whom hosted the ‘Intalex Drum and Bass Show’ on local radio station, Galaxy 102FM which I regularly listed to.

Becoming a DJ

In 1993-1994, the music was evolving, speeding up from oldschool into Jungle/Drum and Bass music. I started to DJ at several local bars including  ‘Siberia’ bar in Bury, for a night promoting local talent.

I also entered a DJ competition at an exhibition in the old GMex exhibition centre, finishing a respectable 3rd in my group.

As we entered the new millenium after the year 2000, Drum and Bass music had evolved further into many different styles including vocal, soulful, Amen, dark, jump-up and more.

More and more independent record labels such as Metalheadz, Hospital, Ram and Shogun Audio were in full swing, managed by the top industry artists with albums and releases from the leading artists in the scene.

Soon after, I started to learn music production and discovered Ableton – the  software I use to produce my music tracks.

Having upgraded my decks at the end of 2023 to a standalone system with portable speakers, I am now focussed on streamlining my music collection with the aim of launching this website soon, at a local event.

Explore the website to check out my tracks, mixes and remixes or contact me with any enquiries.

My main genre followed is Drum and Bass although I also enjoy mixing house, dance and oldschool music from the early 1990s!

Going back to the early years, I have been inspired by artists such as Acen, Liam Howlett from The Prodigy and Andy C, for his releases as ‘Origin Unknown’ and ‘Desired State.’ More recently, in terms of Drum and Bass, I am inspired by producers such as Artificial Intelligence, Calibre, Logistics & High Contrast.

This question has always come up over the years and if anything, DnB music is stronger now than ever, thanks to the constant emergence of quality artists who are producing such good music. There are so many styles and Drum and Bass can incorporate just about any other type of music. It’s definitely a good time to be a fan like me!

I created this website primarily to organise my vast collection of DJ sets and remixes. It started as a personal project to catalogue my music and develop my web design skills. It’s important to note that this website is not intended for any commercial purposes, and all credit goes to the original artists whose work is featured here.
